When it comes to establishing yourself as an authority in your industry, creating valuable, in-depth content is essential. However, let’s be honest, developing white papers, reports, and thought leadership pieces is incredibly time-consuming. That’s where AI comes in.
In this article, I’ll share three powerful strategies for using AI to build your authority online, drawing from my recent webinar on the topic. These approaches aren’t new, but AI makes them significantly more efficient and accessible even for time-poor business owners.
Why Expert Content Matters
Before diving into the strategies, let’s quickly address why creating expert content is worth your time. Everyone’s an expert in something. The experiences and knowledge you’ve gained in your field are valuable, and creating content that showcases this expertise:
- Establishes you as a thought leader in your industry.
- Provides in-depth insights that educate your audience.
- Builds trust and credibility with potential clients and partners.
- Creates powerful assets for lead generation.
White papers and reports are particularly effective for building trust because they demonstrate your deep understanding of industry trends, challenges, and solutions.
The AI Content Creation Process
When using AI to create content, I always follow a three-stage process to ensure quality and mitigate risks:

- Preparation: Think about what information the AI needs to generate the output you want. Consider the who, what, where, when, how, and why of your content, as well as your goals and target audience.
- Content Generation: Input your prompt and be prepared to go back and forth with the AI. Even with the best prompt, you’ll rarely get exactly what you need on the first try.
- Post-Production: This step is critical and often overlooked. Nearly 50% of people in my recent research weren’t fact-checking or editing AI-generated content! Always verify facts, edit for tone and style, and format your final document appropriately.
Now, let’s explore the three key strategies for building authority with AI.
Strategy 1: Creating Expert Content with AI
White papers and industry reports position you as a thought leader, but they traditionally take weeks to research and write. AI accelerates this process dramatically.
How to create expert content with AI:
- Define Your Objectives: Identify your target audience and content goals.
- Choose Your Data Source: You can either use your own research data (such as customer surveys or interviews) or leverage AI’s deep research capabilities.
- Select the Right Tools: Several AI tools now offer deep research functions, including:
- ChatGPT (with web search or Deep Research)
- Perplexity
- Google Gemini Deep Research
- Draft Your Prompt: Be specific about what you want. Here’s an example:
“You are a market researcher. Please draft a white paper aimed at wellness business owners in Australia that provides current statistics relating to efficiency enhancements that can be made to businesses that integrate AI into their operations. The white paper should not be more than three pages and contain statistics and case studies from the internet from the wellness industry where possible. If none are available from the wellness industry please provide the most compelling statistics. Please use professional but accessible tone and language. The aim of this white paper is to excite wellness business owners about AI and encourage them to consider integrating it (or even more) into their own operations. Please be accurate and provide sources. My job depends on your accuracy.”
- Edit and Personalise: Blend AI-generated drafts with your own insights to create a natural tone that reflects your brand voice.
Real-World Example:
Canva recently conducted a study of 4,200 hiring managers and 6,000 job seekers about design skills in the workplace called: New Year, New Job: Our playbook for standing out in 2025. They used this data to create an industry report that served both as a lead magnet and generated significant media coverage. This approach combines AI efficiency with human creativity to amplify impact.
Another example from my own business: At Dharana, we interviewed wellness practitioners about avoiding burnout for our podcast. We then used AI to analyse the transcripts and compile the insights into white papers on topics like “Tips to Avoid Burnout” and “Navigating Social Media as a Wellness Practitioner.” These reports became valuable lead magnets and helped position us as authorities in the wellness space.
Strategy 2: Repurposing Content for Social Media
Once you’ve created your expert content, make it work harder for you by breaking it down into smaller pieces for social media.
Here’s how to repurpose your content with AI:
- Upload Your Document: Take your white paper or report and upload it to an AI tool like Claude, ChatGPT, or Google Gemini.
- Create a Prompt for Repurposing: For example:
“You are a social media content writer. Please create three LinkedIn posts highlighting one of the key statistics and findings in the paper in each post. These posts are aimed at wellness business owners to encourage them to download the white paper. Please keep the content 50 words or less. Use clear and engaging tone and avoid AI banality and overused AI clichés. Use UK English. The posts should have a strong hook at the beginning and a strong call to action at the end. My job depends on your accuracy.”
- Edit the Results: Adjust the AI-generated posts to match your voice and style.
- Plan and Schedule: Set up a content calendar to ensure regular posting.
This approach is incredibly time-efficient. In less than an hour, you can generate a white paper and multiple social media posts to promote it. When you link these posts to a landing page where people can download your report in exchange for their email, you’ve created a complete lead generation system.
Strategy 3: Automated Outreach to Media and Podcast Hosts
Publishing on your own channels is important, but getting featured in industry media or appearing on podcasts can significantly amplify your authority.
Here’s how to use AI for media outreach:
- Find Relevant Contacts: Use AI to identify journalists, bloggers, and podcast hosts in your niche. Tools like Perplexity and Google Gemini Deep Research can help you create targeted lists. Simply prompt with something like “Find me key media contacts covering the wellness industry in Australia.”
- Personalise Your Pitches: Craft engaging, personalised email pitches about your white paper or expertise. Avoid generic openings like “I hope this email finds you well”, they’re overused by AI and immediately recognisable.
- Automate Follow-Ups: Use outreach platforms like Reply.io or Go High Level to set up automated follow-up sequences.
This process would traditionally take days, but with AI assistance, you can complete most of the groundwork in a few hours.
The Secret: Human in the Loop
While AI can dramatically accelerate content creation and outreach, remember that you, the human expert, are still crucial to the process. AI tools are incredibly powerful, but they require your guidance, expertise, and final review to create truly authoritative content.
The most effective approach blends AI efficiency with your personal touch. Use AI to handle the time-consuming aspects of content creation, but add your unique insights, check facts, and edit for tone and style.
